The Pain Coach 1 Day Course is for clinicians and therapists who wish to deepen their understanding of pain, especially chronic pain, and how they can be more effective in treating pain by being a Pain Coach.
This is a very practical day of learning where you will fully participate in cafe style discussions and creative activities to develop your working knowledge of pain. This means that you are taking your existing knowledge and updating your thinking to create something new and exciting that you can immediately apply to your day to day practice.
Being a Pain Coach means that you are seeking to get the most out of the individual as they maximise their potential. You train the person to focus on their desired outcome and how to get there using their existing strengths, which you identify and then employ whilst dealing with any distractions. This is the model of success.
The day’s programme includes:
- The problem of pain as a public health issue
- What is pain?
- Existing & modern pain models
- Pain Coaching: science, compassion & sense
- Building healthy habits
- Mindfulness practice & compassion
- You: the therapist or clinician
- The art of communication
- The story of a person’s pain & pain vulnerabilities
- Cognition, perception & action unified
- Reducing the threat
- The role of hands on treatment
- Exercise and sensorimotor training
At the end you will understand what it is to be a Pain Coach, understand pain and the causes of pain and suffering, have working knowledge of Pain Coaching as a way of delivering modern care based on contemporary thinking about pain and an inquisitveness that wil drive you to keep learning about this fascinating area!
